After an introduction with a somewhat muddy-sounding mike, Cindy
welcomed Clare, who was outside the back of the room door to the
large common area.
NOTE: Our use of "..." indicates verbal pauses, usually...
1. The One and Only Glorificus, Clare Kramer !
Cindy (SC3 organizer):
...last night...of course is Clare Kramer.
For those of you that want to fill in, close in, I...you'll remember her in the movie
Bring It On. I think the very first time I I saw that film I kind of like had to sit back for a second
and try not to put all the influences that Buffy had put into my brain At that point in time
...(inaudible)...factors you like...I love the cheerleading sequences....
(Loudly)
The ONE, the ONLY, GLORIFICUS, Clare Kramer !
(Clare enters the room though the door, walking rapidly, as the camera follows her
and people clap. Smiling as she marches up the side of the audience, with her glorified
messenger bag at her side, to the low stage in front and takes the chair from Cindy. )
2. I may tell you the truth. I may lie. You'll never know.
Clare:
Hello, everyone!
(Clare picks up the mike, discarding her bag onto the desk behind her chair.)
I feel like it's so late in the day. I just got up (laughs). So groggy last night.
(Clare had slept for about 12 hours).
So. These two days...first of all, because this is such a small group...so really you can
ask anything. I may tell you the truth. I may lie. You'll never know. OK. But the best way
is to start asking questions, I think...(waves her left arm)
(Taps on mike with left hand finger)
Oh, it's on. OK. Does anyone have any questions? Did anyone stay up too late last night?
Did anyone drink a lot last night?
GIAG
(gloryisagod.com - behind camera about 15 feet to Clare's left):
(loudly)
DID YOU?
Clare:
(Looks over and laughs, then looks out into the audience)
Go ahead..yes...
Audience:
Glory was a very ...(inaudible)... personality type.
What prepared you to portray that character ... (inaudible)...
3. Cherry is Glory
Clare:
Well... I don't think that I need this mike...
(discards it onto the table behind her)
...when I got the material it was two pages of nondescript dialog.
No character description other than, y'a know, girl, mid-20's, y'a know...
(Clare ticks off the list on her fingers)
I think the name was Cherie or Cherry at the very beginning.
(It was Cherry. Later told Clare we'd send her a copy of the
text of the audition's 'nondescript dialog', which we did later.)
...
(Here it is:)
CHERRY- AUDITION SCENE
Fade in:
EXT. Sidewalk - morning.
Small child approximately 6 walks along the sidewalk with an ice-cream cone.
CHERRY approaches him followed by a scabbed demon.
CHERRY
What are you doing?
CHILD
Eating an ice cream cone!
CHERRY
How do you do that?
CHILD
I just put it in my mouth and swallow! Want some?
Child offers cone to CHERRY.
DEMON
With all respect, you can't eat.
CHERRY
Offering me something you know I can't have? Rude!
CHERRY swiftly snaps the child's neck and he falls limply to the ground dropping the cone.
CHERRY puts her hands on her hips.
CHERRY
Get up! I order you to get up!
CHERRY turns towards the minion.
CHERRY
Why isn't he getting up?
...

4. Clare Launches the Glory Character as We Know Her
So I got this material.
And you know what? I can do anything with this stuff.
But I wanted to try to do something different and come up with a character on my own.
Go in there so I can have an audition process.
I'd just recently watched "The Shining" and Jack Nicholson's character.
I said like, you know what, what if I did... (looks up, does her first rotating hands
about one another to mimic a wheel, progress)
,,,
Gloriana Comments:
We will eventually add appropriate captures (in the orange area
to the left), from the DVDs we made of the videos of the two Q&As, to properly
illustrate Clare's amazing repertoire of hand (and body) motions to illustrate her
words as she talks. We believe that if Clare cannot illustrate her words,
her answers tend to be much shorter and way lots less lively.
(The other KEY to Clare is how much she laughs - the more, the better the
interview/Q&A is going).
Clare's gestures are a truly charming trait that we first documented in 2001 in
our site captures of the extra DVD stuff in her "Bring It On" San Diego 1999
interview. And then in our 2 May 2004 site interview with Clare at Starfury
Fusion in Blackpool, England.
Clare also does some extensive hand and controlling gestures in Aeris' video
of Clare's episode on the short-lived early 2002 UPN comedy "The Random Years".
This can be seen in some of the captures in that time period in the site Clare
News, or Clare's other site galleries, etc. Aeris probably still has it up,
and we may put it up also on our more spacious ( 6.5 GB ) 2nd domain
(gloryisagod.net) where all this Toronto, and the 2003-2004 Quicky Galleries,
are.
Based on watching Clare at Fusion in front of 800+ people in several Q&A's,
we note that she does all this this mostly only in her more private interviews.
When she's in control of the table...the audience...more intimately than on
a distant high stage. Where people have to queue up for a microphone- and
she cannot really see and interact with them. - Gloriana

...like a female version of that?
But. y'a know, a little bit different. And that was kind of the launch of the Glory
character. (Clare smashes her open left hand on the back of her right and then
mimics a launch with her right hand)
And she...then the writers came in with the first episode. And I looked at their take on the
character as well and how she was going to take to the storyline. (Clare alternates grab
and include gestures with her hands)
And kind of went from this...drawing from different...there was no one specifically
(Clare continues to wave both hands about in front of her face, with fingers in motion,
to illustrate as she talks)...but it...taking really being inspired by what the writers
wrote also. And take that into account...and building from there. (Clare does her now
familiar 'rolling wheels' motions with her hands to illustrate progress)
So, not one specific person, but several different influences...(rakes her hands across the
back of her head to corral her long...currently sandy, subtly highlighted...hair that flies
everywhere when is really animated in her answers)... It was a collaborative effort, for sure,
between the writers, directors and myself. (left to right hand motion to illustrate inclusion)
(looks about and smiles)
Nobody else has...OK
(points out to someone in the audience & laughs)
